Kitchen Laminate Flooring FAQs

Why choose laminate flooring for a kitchen?

Laminate flooring is ideal for kitchen and utility spaces thanks to its hardwearing and moisture resistant properties. It looks and feels just like genuine wood, but its High-Density Fiberboard (HDF) core offers superior durability against warping and temperature changes. So, if you love the look of genuine wood, consider our stunning range of kitchen laminate floor options today.

Will kitchen laminate flooring withstand spills and moisture?

Water resistant kitchen laminate has a hardy top layer, making it suitable for moisture prone spaces like kitchens. But it’s important to know that it’s not entirely water proof. Make sure to wipe spills as quickly as possible, and only clean with a lightly damp (almost dry!) mop to avoid excess moisture seeping in and damaging the planks. Our laminate care guide explains all you need to know!

Can kitchen laminate flooring handle heavy appliances in the kitchen?

While kitchen laminate flooring features a strong core made of compressed wood, it's not advised to place heavy kitchen appliances such as washing machines, tumble dryers, or fridges on top. This is because laminate is a floating floor with an expansion gap that allows it to expand and contract when the temperature changes, so it shouldn't be pinned down by large appliances.

Will kitchen laminate flooring warp from heat or steam?

Our laminate flooring for kitchen, utility and conservatory spaces is crafted with a UV resistant top layer to help prevent long-term sun damage. However, kitchen laminate floor tiles are not 100% waterproof, meaning you shouldn’t use a steam mop to clean. This could damage the planks.

Is underlay necessary for kitchen laminate flooring?

Laminate is a wood-based floating floor, so underlay is advised to help retain heat, reduce sound from footsteps, and protect from subfloor moisture. The type of laminate underlay depends on your subfloor, as you may need a damp proof membrane for concrete kitchen subfloors. Our guide to the best laminate flooring underlay options can help you find what you need to transform you space.

Can kitchen laminate flooring be installed over existing floors?

It’s usually recommended to remove your existing kitchen floor before installing laminate. Thanks to its tongue-and-groove or click-lock construction, it’s often fairly simple to remove laminate yourself. At Tapi, we can arrange professional flooring removal and installation to help you design your dream floors without a hitch.
