How to set the mood for your spa day

To create a tranquil atmosphere, start by decluttering your bathroom and creating a clean and organised space to enjoy your spa treatments at home. So clear away any unnecessary items to create a sense of openness. Next, focus on the lighting. Soft, warm lighting is key to achieving a restful ambience. Consider lighting scented candles that will provide a soft and soothing glow and a relaxing aroma. If you already have a Himalayan salt lamp, that’d also add a subtle, warm light that promotes relaxation.

Calming music

Selecting the right music can greatly enhance the spa day at home experience. It’s a very personal choice, but something that’s soothing and instrumental is most likely to help you unwind. Natural sounds like ocean waves, rain, or birds chirping might do the trick, otherwise music that doesn’t have lyrics or a drumbeat should create a peaceful environment without distractions. If you don’t have any of that type of music at home, then search on YouTube for ‘lounge’ or ‘chill-out’ music. And if you’re subscribed to a streaming platform, you’re bound to find many playlists on there, specifically curated for relaxation.

Aromatherapy

Your sense of smell can be a powerful tool for relaxation, as some scents have been shown to have a positive impact on our mood and emotions. Essential oils like lavender, chamomile or eucalyptus, either floating in water in a diffuser or just a few drops into a warm bath, you should be able to calm your mind, relieve stress and promote a sense of peace. We sell our own Breeze diffuser, a value for money way to create that spa day at home environment with a beautiful scent.

Surround yourself in luxury

Find your best fluffy towels or plush bathrobes to enhance the feeling of luxury during your spa day. Soft, absorbent towels will make you feel pampered and enveloped in comfort. Consider choosing neutral or calming colours like white, light grey, or pastels to create a spa-like style. To complete the spa experience, add a few thoughtful touches to your bathroom. Place a basket filled with rolled-up towels and washcloths for convenience. Fill a jar with bath salts or bath bombs for an indulgent soak. Have a tray with a selection of herbal teas or infused water nearby for hydration during your spa day. Consider placing a small vase with fresh flowers to add a touch of nature and beauty.

Spa treatments to try at home

One of the many highlights of a spa day is pampering your skin with nourishing treatments. But you don’t need to spend too much money splashing out on expensive ingredients. Instead, you could create your own DIY face masks and body scrubs using products found in your kitchen.

  • Face mask: Mix together mashed avocado, honey, and a few drops of lemon juice. This mask will hydrate and revitalise your skin. Resist the temptation to put it on your toast or have a little nibble though!
  • Body scrub: For a refreshing product that will exfoliate and nourish your skin, blend coconut oil, sugar, and a few drops of your favourite essential oil. Gently massage the scrub onto your body, then wash it off with warm water, and you should feel a moisturising effect all over.

Massage and self-care

Massage is an essential part of any spa experience, and you can easily incorporate it into your home spa day. Buy a massage oil or lotion with a relaxing scent, or at a pinch use coconut oil, and give yourself a gentle self-massage. Focus on areas of tension such as the neck, shoulders, and feet. You can also use a foam roller or massage balls for a deeper massage experience.

Digital detox and meditation

To truly disconnect and create a spa-like experience, give yourself a digital detox during your spa day. Turn off your phone, computer, and any other electronic devices that may distract you. This will allow you to fully immerse yourself in the moment, promoting a sense of relaxation and mindfulness. We’ll show you a simple, self-guided meditation you can do, if you don’t want to use an app or a recording:

  • Find a comfortable spot in your bathroom or a quiet corner of your home, close your eyes, and focus on your breath.
  • Engage in deep, slow breaths to let go of any tension or stress. If you need to, repeat a neutral, soothing word like ‘calm’ or ‘relax’ to yourself.
  • Don’t worry if your mind wanders or you feel self-conscious, this is completely understandable. The aim of this is to feel relaxed and refreshed, so don’t put any pressure on yourself to get it right.  That’s why experts talk about mindfulness as a ‘practice. Like everything, it takes a little while to do it properly!
  • Set yourself a timer if you’d like, and try to be in the here and now, noticing what you feel, what you hear.

The best flooring for relaxation

Creating the right surroundings will enhance your DIY spa experience, and the perfect flooring will contribute to the overall relaxing ambience of your spa day. Opt for materials that are visually appealing and comfortable underfoot. Borrow from the organic world and surround yourself with stone, wood or greenery to create a sense of tranquillity.

Indulge all your senses and consider soft plush rugs or carpets in neutral tones or the colours of nature like greens, beiges or a sky blue.  Remember to choose flooring that is water-resistant and easy to clean, as the bathroom environment can be damp. We’d recommend a luxury vinyl or a vinyl for a low-maintenance option.

We hope we’ve given you a checklist to create a rejuvenating experience.  We’d be delighted to provide free, practical advice on the best flooring to promote a tranquil environment. Pop into your local Tapi store, which is a peaceful environment itself, a world away from those old-fashioned dusty carpet warehouses of the past! Our friendly floorologists will be happy to help.
