To ensure a smooth finish, some works may be required and the fitters offer a huge choice of services to help prepare your bare flooring to ensure a worry-free finish. This is especially important when considering smooth flooring such as LVT or Vinyl as any imperfections in the subfloor may affect the appearance of your new flooring.
Our estimators and home consultants will be able to point out any potential concerns that may need to be addressed prior to fitting, as well as provide a quotation for any additional services required if they have access to confirm the condition of your subfloor.
This is a term that will come up when shopping for smooth flooring and can be quite confusing at first. To put it simply, the wear layer is a clear top surface that provides durability, stain and scratch resistance for your LVT flooring.
In order to decide which is the right wear layer for you, you will need to determine the usage of the flooring beforehand. If you have children, pets, or there is a lot of foot traffic in your home, you should consider a thicker wear layer to ensure you can enjoy your new LVT flooring for many years.
You can breathe a huge sigh of relief! Luxury vinyl tiles are very easy to clean. Thanks to their PU protection shield layer, they're totally water-resistant and have an exceptional resistance to scratches and stains. Our Tapi Floor Care Guide is full of helpful information to help you tackle any kind of spillage like a pro. You should have received this when you placed your order, but you can also download it here.
No. Real wood takes on its environment, it moves and breathes, therefore fitting LVT on top of a wooden floor will stop the air from getting to it, which will cause many issues. If you've got a wooden parquet floor, this will have to come up before a new floor can go down. You can't lay LVT on top of laminate either as laminate is a wood-based floating floor that needs room to expand and contract in different temperatures, so this would be an unstable subfloor for LVT.
Luxury vinyl doesn't require traditional underlay. With dryback LVT, you can either use HT adhesive or our LVT flexible self-adhesive 'underlay' - a sticky sheet that can be trimmed to size that's so quick and easy to install. Our flexi underlay is also compatible with click LVT; however, all our current ranges of click LVT have underlay already built in - clever!
Luxury vinyl flooring, aka LVT, combines the look and feel of a real wooden or stone floor with lots of practical benefits. Each luxury vinyl tile or plank is made up of many different layers, resulting in a smart and stylish floor with super strength and durability that’s also stain- and water-resistant. Some styles are also embossed and textured, so they feel like real wood or stone beneath your feet. Luxury vinyl floor tiles are a great choice for bathrooms and kitchens but can be laid anywhere in your home - and very easily too! Find out more about LVT or explore our full collection online.
Luxury vinyl is one of the more expensive smooth flooring options, but thanks to its durability, it’s a long-term investment - some styles have a lifetime wear guarantee!
Fitting costs start from £15 per m2 for dryback LVT and £17.50 per m2 for click LVT, and our cheapest dryback luxury vinyl is £22.99 per m2. This means it will cost just over £450 to install LVT in a 3x4 metre room, then you’d need to add on any door bars, and in the case of dryback LVT, add on glue as well. There might also be some extra costs to prepare the subfloor for a new smooth floor, depending on its condition. To get a full quote for new luxury vinyl flooring, head to your nearest Tapi store, or play around with our handy LVT flooring cost calculator (found on all of our LVT product pages).
Yes! Luxury vinyl floor tiles have a special waterproof coating, so they're the perfect flooring choice for bathrooms, utility rooms, and kitchens. However, there's a small chance moisture or water could get in the joins between each tile, so it's best to clean up any spills right away and take care when mopping your floor.
Preparing your subfloor is key to getting the best performance out of your new LVT flooring. Unlike carpet, smooth flooring will show up any imperfections in the subfloor, so you need to make sure your subfloor is dry, smooth, structurally sound, and free from debris. Our guide to preparing your subfloor will tell you all the things you need to know.
If you're not sure of the condition of your subfloor, we can assess it for you during a home visit or when we do our measurement checks. If it turns out your subfloor needs repairing or replacing, we can provide you with a quote, and arrange this additional service with independent fitters if you’re happy to go ahead.
Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LVT) are a modern flooring innovation combining the incredible durability of vinyl with the realistic effect of laminate, as well as lots of other great stuff too. It’s made of different layers that provide sturdiness and great design. LVT is stain and water-resistant too. It comes in a host of natural designs, from wood LVT to stone LVT and looks gorgeous in every room of the home. You can find out everything you need to know about LVT in our LVT buying guide.
LVT is made from several layers, each one having its own unique purpose and quality. The top layer of LVT consists of a polyurethane/UV coating which gives the product its fantastic resistance to water, scuffs, and UV light. Beneath this you will find the wear and tear layer, which provides further scuff and dent resistance as well protecting the decorative film below. This decorative layer is printed and made from materials like traditional vinyl. Below the decorative film you’ll find the core layer, which gives the LVT its strength and stability. For stick down LVT these will be the only layers, you will simply then stick the product to the subfloor. For a click LVT however, you will commonly find an in-built underlay. You can find out lots more about LVT in our LVT buying guide.
Laying LVT involves a few different steps, from measuring your room, smoothing and cleaning your subfloor, possibly installing underlay and fitting the LVT planks. The entire process is laid out in our guide on how to lay LVT flooring if you want to give it a go yourself, and we also have guides on how to measure a room and how to lay underlay, so we’re with you every step of the way. However, fitting your own LVT flooring can be a bit of a challenge, so we always recommend using our trusted fitting partners to help you do the job without any fuss.
It’s a doddle to clean, just wipe it down with a damp cloth or mop, or vacuum or sweep up crumbs. All LVT planks have water-resistant properties, but they still shouldn’t be exposed to too much moisture. There are lots of helpful hints and tips on cleaning your LVT flooring in our LVT care guide.
We’d recommend you ask a professional flooring fitter to do this for you. We also offer a free measuring and planning service where we can advise you how to fit any unusually shaped areas, should you want to fit LVT yourself.
